1: Does Pegasus have tryouts?
A: Yes. Additionally, When a player inquires, she is invited to attend our practice. If she fits our criteria, the player is invited to play with us.
2: What is the criteria for selection to play with Pegasus?
A: Speed, coachability, a passion for the sport, and desire to play at the next level.
3: When are practices.
A: Winter practice is from December to March. Spring practice runs from April - May.
4: Where are practices.
A: Winter practices are normally held in the Rockville and Dulles Sportsplexes. Summer practices has no fixed location.
5: What major tournaments does Pegasus attend?
A: The USFHA Hockey Festival and the USFHA National Indoors Tournament (NIT). Note: Teams have to play qualifying tournaments in order to attend the NIT.
6: What is Futures?
A: Futures is a program run by USFHA to develop promising high
school players. Similar to soccer ODP.

7: What separates players and attracts college coaches?
A; Coachability and understanding of the game. This is reflected in your play because you are always in the right spot, making the right plays.
8: What is the NCAA Clearinghouse?
A: All high schools seniors have to register with the Clearinghouse, in order to
be considered by colleges.

9: What weight of stick should a player use?
A: Lighter sticks are recommended. Players are expected to be ambidextrous.
Heavier wooden sticks were used in the olden days, to give more power. Modern day sticks are made out of synthetic material. So, you get extra power with a lighter stick. That way, stick work is not sacrificed.
10: Big bow or regular stick?
A: Big bow gets the ball airborne faster with less bending. Definitely recommended for taller players. Optional for players below 5ft 5 ins.
11: What camps should I attend this summer?
A: Camps at schools that you have an interest in attending. Get a feel for the school and coaching staff.
12: What is College Connection.
A: This is a camp for coaches to see players. Good camp to attend to be seen.

13: I am a top player on my high school with all conference, all met honors. On Pegasus,
I’m a bench warmer. Why?
A: Each coach has different expectations. High school is played on grass. Your high school coach may use totally grass technique, which is very upright. Common issues are a/ Ability to convert to Pegasus technique, which encourages players to play very low to the ground. b/ Pegasus puts a premium on playing outstanding “pitbull” defense.
14: What type of training should I do, outside of field hockey.
A: Working with a trainer to improve speed, quickness and footwork. Ability to cut
and change direction is extremely important.
15: Is there any television shows that I can watch to improve my game?
Q: The golf channel is good for developing a swing and understanding how to spin a field hockey ball. Believe it or not, balls are hooked and sliced in field hockey.
The NBA has excellent visual action. Imagine doing the same moves in field hockey.
NBA analysts are good at explaining different type of defenses.
